2025 Annual Implementation Plan Focus
School Priority 1
Maximise engagement and wellbeing through a clear vision that increases student engagement, staff morale and community connection.
School Priority 2
Improve LOA in English for all students (P-6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
Dear Parents and Carers,
Karibu wiki ya 8;
Bienvenue à la semaine 8;
Wadda Mooli, Welcome to Week 8, Term 1 2025.
Aitkenvale State School is a friendly and welcoming place where everyone feels included and supported. At our school, we make sure that all students, no matter where they come from or what their abilities are, are treated with kindness and respect. Teachers help everyone feel safe and comfortable, and there are lots of fun activities to do, where you can make new friends. We celebrate our differences by having special events like Multicultural Day and Harmony Day where we learn about each other’s cultures. Aitkenvale SS is a place where everyone’s unique qualities are celebrated, and everyone has a chance to shine!
LIFE EDUCATION
Life Ed came to our school, and we want to say a big thank you! The students really enjoyed spending time with Healthy Harold and learning about staying healthy and making good choices. Through fun activities and easy-to-understand lessons, we learned important things about our bodies, emotions, and how to look after ourselves. It was a great experience that taught us lots of valuable lessons, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be part of it!
ATTENDANCE – Every Day Counts & School Starts at 8.30am
We have set a whole-school goal of achieving 88% attendance this year, and we believe that every day in school matters. Regular attendance is crucial to student success, as it ensures consistent learning, maintains good relationships with peers and teachers, and helps build important skills that extend beyond the classroom. Parents play a vital role in supporting good attendance by encouraging routines and being proactive when issues arise. Teachers help by providing engaging lessons and creating a welcoming environment that makes students excited to come to school. Ultimately, students are key to this goal, as their commitment to attending school and engaging in their learning will ensure we achieve success together.
Our current whole school attendance for the first 8 weeks is at 87.5%. Not bad considering the amount of wet weather we have been having. Is your child attending regularly?
NAPLAN
NAPLAN has started, and all the students are working hard and doing their best. We’ll keep focusing and giving our best effort until Monday to help everyone succeed.
NAPLAN, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, is an online test held each March for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It covers Writing (Year 3 writes on paper), Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and Numeracy.
NAPLAN helps schools and governments check if students are meeting key goals in literacy and numeracy. It provides a snapshot of how students are doing in these areas, alongside other classroom assessments.
ROAD SAFETY
Road safety is really important for everyone, whether you're driving, walking, catching the bus, or riding a bike. Always wear your seatbelt in the car to stay safe in case of an accident. When you're on the bus, remember to stay seated and listen to the bus driver’s instructions. If you're walking to school, use crosswalks, stay alert, and avoid distractions like your phone to stay safe. If you're riding a bike, always wear a helmet and follow traffic rules. By practicing these safety habits every day, we can all stay safe on the road.
E-SAFETY
E-safety is really important when using the internet and social media. It’s about staying safe online and protecting your personal information. Always use strong passwords and don’t share things like your address or phone number with people you don’t know. Be careful about what you post on social media – once it’s out there, it’s hard to take back! Treat others with respect online, just like you would in person, and don’t engage in cyberbullying. If something makes you uncomfortable or seems suspicious, tell a trusted adult. By being smart and responsible online, you can enjoy social media while staying safe.
Aitkenvale State School sets high standards for behaviour from all in our school and community, so teaching and learning can be prioritised and staff and students can experience success in a safe and enjoyable environment. Aitkenvale has 3 school rules, which include but aren’t limited to the following examples:
Be Safe
- Keep hand, feet and objects to yourself
- Use equipment appropriately
- Move around the school sensibly
- Line up and be in the correct areas
Be Responsible
- Ask permission to leave supervised areas
- Be in the right place at the right time
- Ask for help when required
- Be responsible for your own behaviour
Be Respectful
- Use school appropriate language
- Use your manners
- Listen to and follow all staff instructions
- Respect property and personal space
Please ensure you speak with your child/ren in regard to what you expect from them, what the school expects from them and what it looks like to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL.

LATE STUDENTS
There are a growing number of students who are being picked up later than expected after the 2:30 PM dismissal.
We are asking parents and guardians to be mindful of the pickup times and make arrangements, when possible, to ensure students are collected promptly. If late pickups become a frequent occurrence, it could also be helpful to explore alternative solutions, such as after-school programs or extended care options that might better meet the needs of busy families.

Year 6's Creative Theme Park Designs: A Showcase of Innovation and Hard Work
Year 6 have been hard at work designing and building theme parks for their Term 1 assessment. Their creativity and innovation shines through in each of their projects! Great job, Year 6!

Class 3/4C: Turning Pictures into Words – A Creative Writing Challenge
Our students embraced an exciting challenge: turning a picture into a piece of writing! ✍️ Using vivid descriptions and creative storytelling, they brought their own unique ideas to life. It was amazing to see how each student interpreted the image in their own way. 🌄✨ They did a great job showing off their writing skills!

Year 1 visit Healthy Harold
1B attended Healthy Harold - their first activity focused on looking and understanding our body clues to help children identify their feelings. Being able to identify their feelings encourages children to reach out to adults to feel safe and secure.
Our second activity focused on identifying negative and positive feelings. The children learnt new things we can say to keep positive, things like ‘mistakes help me learn’ and ‘doing hard things makes me stronger’. Healthy Harold is such a valuable learning experience for our children here at Aitkenvale State School.
