Wadda Mooli, Habari, Bonjour.
Welcome to week 6 of Term 4. Only 5 weeks to go until the Christmas Holidays. This year school finishes on Friday 13th December. Throughout the week of December 2 – 6 we will have the Academic Award Ceremony, Year 6 Celebration Days and Whole School Rewards Days.
SWIMMING
Notes have gone home regarding the Swimming Lessons in Wk8 -Wk10 as well as the Swimming Carnival in week 9. We look forward to these days and hope as many of you can participate as possible. Please return all of your notes so your children don’t miss out.
DISCO
It’s Disco time. This Thursday 7th November from 5.30-7.30pm in the Hall. Entry is free but there will be some food and drinks to purchase. This is a P&C fundraising event and participation helps make a difference to our school. We hope to see as many students there as possible. It should be a great night full of colour and glow products. Dress up in your scariest outfits and get ready to party!
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are now taking all Prep enrolments for 2025. Children born 01 July 2019 – 30 June 2020 are eligible to attend Prep next year. Make sure you get your enrolment forms completed and handed into the office as soon as possible.
ENROLMENTS
We are beginning our planning for 2025! If you know of a family looking to enrol at Aitkenvale State School, or know of a student looking to change schools, please contact the office by phone on 44212333 or email admin@aitkenvaless.eq.edu.au so we can ensure children have access to the best possible transition to school.
ARE YOU TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER SCHOOL IN 2025?
We will soon commence the process of coordinating class compositions for 2025. We would appreciate early notice if your child or children will be transferring to another school in 2025. Please inform the office by phone on 44212333 or email admin@aitkenvaless.eq.edu.au at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your assistance.
TOILETS
The day has come, and we finally have the new senior toilets completed. We have spoken with the students about using them appropriately and having some pride in them. The toilets are a welcome addition to the school and provide our students with clean and usable facilities. We would like to keep them that way.
The junior toilets will get an upgrade in the December holidays. We can’t wait for this to happen.
I have spoken a lot this year about a focus on school pride, challenging our students and staff to think about this school as a community. I have asked each of our students to think about how they contribute to making our school the place they want it to be. I encourage all community members to continue this dialogue and consider how our individual choices (actions and words) help in creating and maintaining the amazing community of Aitkenvale State School.
Thank you to all the families who have attended different events at the school over the last few weeks. I really enjoy getting to know you all better and have enjoyed speaking to each and every one of you. Let’s keep the community partnerships building.
YEAR 6 into 7 2025
It is important for parents and carers of Year 6 students to make contact with their high school of choice for next year, if you haven’t already done so. This time of year, is usually when various enrolment information evenings are held, and enrolment interview blocks occur. Any student attendance at Term 4 open days or transition days is always subject to involvement in a current enrolment process at that particular high school and confirmed enrolment at that high school for 2025. If Year 6 students and families have not had an enrolment interview, the high/secondary schools do not allow students to attend their respective open/transition days.
ATTENDANCE
Our Goal for 2024 was set at 85% attendance for the whole school as of week 4 Term 4 we currently sit at 86%. This is an increase of nearly 5% for the year. Let’s see if we can increase the % even further throughout Term 4.
School attendance is compulsory under the Education Act, however if children are unwell, we know it is best for them and the school community for them to stay home. If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, parents are requested to inform the school. If your child is absent from school on any given day and we are unaware of the reason for the absence, an SMS message will be generated asking you to contact the school regarding your child’s absence. Students are encouraged to be At School, On Time, Every Day, unless they are unwell.
Our school has two focus areas for 2024, which drive the work happening at Aitkenvale SS. The following are our priorities as outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan 2024.
School Priority 1
Maximise student engagement and wellbeing across all settings through a reduction in reported behaviour incidences
School Priority 2
Improve Level of Achievement in English for all students (Prep - Year 6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
All look forward to seeing you all at school over the coming term. For some of you this will be your last term as a primary school parent. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it. Thank you for working with the school as partners in your child’s learning.

3A
Term 4 has been a busy term for 3A. We have been busy practising our work on time, and we are trying our hand at becoming poets. We have enjoyed the challenge of writing to a rhythming patter and coming up with interesting vocabulary for our poems.
This week we learnt all about what energy was and ways that we can help save energy in a fun presentation called 'Smart Energy Academy'.
In all our busyness, we always make time to greet each and show kindness.
3B
3B has been doing some great work in class this term. For English we are learning to write an adaptation of a poem. We have looked at some different poems and identified the structure and rhyming patterns. We have also been practicing using poetic devices of, alliteration and onomatopoeia and constructing our own stanzas.
In science we have been learning about solids liquids and gases and completed some experiments to help with our understanding of the properties of solids. We have been very lucky to attend some incursions here at school. The Pillow Case Project helped us to understand what we need to do to get ready for an emergency and we were able to decorate our own pillowcases. We also had visitors from the National Theatre Company come and talk to us about smart energy and teach us how we can save energy.
4A
This term, Year 4 cohort have been using our creative brains to explore advertising! We have researched, discussed and made our own cereal boxes! It has been a fun way for the kids to understand how advertising works and impacts on our everyday lives!
4B
This term 4b has been learning about fractions and decimals, investigating the continents of Africa and South America and discussing and researching a variety of Australian animals that are endangered . We have also been examining persuasive texts especially cereal packaging and have designed and created our own cereal box. Currently we are writing our own promotional script to present and convince our target audience to buy our cereal. Check out some of your choices below!
Day for Daniel
Last week Aitkenvale State School acknowledged "Day for Daniel" which is an initiative in Australia focused on raising awareness about child safety and the importance of protecting children from harm. Promoting discussions about safety and encouraging communities to take action to keep children safe. Schools and organizations often participate by wearing red and engaging in activities that highlight child safety education.
Unlocking Imagination: The Magic of Reading
Our students are diving into incredible stories, expanding their imaginations, and discovering new ideas. Whether they're exploring fantasy worlds, solving mysteries, or learning about history, every book opens up a new adventure.
Pillowcase Project
Pillowcase Project - Helping children prepare for, cope with and respond to emergencies. Aimed at students in Years 3 and 4, the one-hour FREE workshop involves engaging discussions and interactive activities to help students:
Understand and discuss the importance of being prepared
- Prepare their mind for the thoughts and feelings that may arise before, during and after an emergency
- Know what to pack in an emergency kit. Each student is then given a pillowcase to decorate and take home, to start their own personal emergency kit.
Leadership in Action
Mrs. Leedie has been guiding the Year 5 students in 5C to develop their leadership skills through a wonderful partnership with the Year 2 classes, 2A and 2B. Each fortnight, the Year 5 students plan and organize fun, engaging activities, which they then lead with the younger students.
The collaboration has been a fantastic opportunity for Year 5 students to develop responsibility, communication, and leadership, while the Year 2 students enjoy the chance to learn from and connect with their older peers. Everyone is already looking forward to the next round of activities in two weeks!
Great work, 5C! Keep up the amazing leadership!
