Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are now past the halfway mark of the term, and I am pleased to see that our students have settled into good routines for learning and have shown commendable behaviour both in the classroom and the playground. It is crucial that we maintain this positive momentum going forward, particularly as student begin to engage with end of term assessment.
I would like to remind you that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, immediately after school. This presents an important opportunity for you to connect with your child's teachers and discuss their progress and areas for improvement. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and these meetings provide a collaborative platform for ensuring their success. Online bookings can be made by following the link
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70983
Bookings can also be made by calling the school office or seeing one of our helpful admin staff in person.
I am also delighted to share that our students have been proudly wearing their uniforms. Our new school uniform looks incredible and is a symbol of our school spirit. The new school bucket hats have arrived and are available for purchase at $15 each. Encouraging our students to wear their uniforms with pride fosters a sense of belonging and unity within our school community.
Next week, we have the pleasure of hosting Healthy Harold, delivered by Life Ed. This program focuses on key influences on a child's health and wellbeing, covering important topics such as nutrition, cyber safety, bullying, and emotional health. It is an invaluable opportunity for our students to learn and grow in these essential areas.
Lastly, I am excited to announce our upcoming community celebration for Harmony Day on Thursday, March 21st. This day is dedicated to celebrating our country's cultural diversity and promoting inclusivity and respect for all. We encourage students, staff, and families to join us in commemorating this important occasion which is due to commence with a special parade at 1.45pm in the hall.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring the success and well-being of our students.
Warm regards,
Thomas Frankling

Meet Our Staff - Year 1
Year 1 A
1A have had a great start to the year! In maths this term we have been learning about measuring length and capacity. We have been practicing measuring objects in the classroom; including ourselves! We have also been working very hard on our sounds and writing each morning. I am so impressed with the perseverance that students are showing with these new and challenging tasks.
Year 1B
We have been very busy in 1B. Spelling and reading groups are well underway with students displaying independence, initiative and leadership. Our HASS and Health units have helped us get to know each other by exploring our family structures, past experiences and identities. In English we are immersed in imaginative texts with an Australian theme and enjoying learning to make connections to our lives and form opinions. What fun we are having along the way!
Year 1/2C
In English 1/2C have been learning how to describe the appearance, actions, thoughts and feelings of a character at the beginning and end of a story. This week in Maths the students have been learning the names of 3D shapes, finding examples of these shapes in our classroom and counting their features and in Health 1/2C have been using the power of role play to help us learn who and how we can ask for help in various scenarios.
Year 1/2
Year 6
Year 6 have been learning about measurement, mapping out square metres on the basketball court.

Look Before You Lock
Leaving children unattended in a vehicle can result in serious injury or death.
The temperature inside a parked vehicle on a typical Australian summer day can be up to 30 degrees hotter than the outside temperature.
In as little as 5 minutes, the temperature in a vehicle can reach dangerous levels.
A child's body temperature rises 3 to 5 times faster than an adult's and the impact of heat on a child's body is almost immediate and can be fatal.
A child left unaccounted for in a vehicle is also unprotected and vulnerable to danger, particularly in an emergency situation.
It only takes one shortcut on safety to have devastating, lifelong consequences.
Create a Look Before You Lock routine.
Building simple steps into your daily routine can help you to avoid unintentionally leaving a child in a vehicle.
- Place an item you will need at your destination in the back seat of the car, such as your bag or wallet.
- Attach a mirror for rear-facing car seats so you can easily see your child.
- Create a mental checklist to run through every time you leave the car, such as 'baby, keys, bag'.
- Get in the habit of checking your backseat every time you get out of the car. Check even if you know your child is not with you. This will help make looking before you lock part of your normal routine.
- Look Before You Lock. Every. Single. Time.
Discuss your Look Before You Lock routine with every person who drives your child. This includes partners, grandparents, babysitters and friends.
Be extra alert if your routine changes to avoid unintentionally leaving your child in your vehicle.
Importantly, if you accidentally lock your child in a car, or you come across a child left unattended in a vehicle:
- Keep calm.
- Think clearly and act quickly.
- Call your roadside assistance provider if you have one.
- Call 000 immediately if you have any concerns about the child's health.

'Away for the day' – mobile phones and wearable devices at school
From the beginning of Term 1 2024, all Queensland state school students must keep their mobile phones switched off and 'away for the day' during school hours. Notifications on wearable devices, such as smartwatches, must be switched off so that phone calls, messages and other notifications cannot be sent or received during school hours.
Aitkenvale State School is committed to reducing the distraction of mobile phones and other device to provide an optimal learning environment. All electronic devices including smart phones, smart watches, ipods and tablets are to be signed in at the office on arrival to school. These items are kept locked in the office throughout the day. Students are required to collect their phones from 2:30pm. Students are not to be using devices whilst on the school grounds.
