Dear Parents and Carers,
Karibu kwa wiki 10;
Bienvenue à la semaine 10;
Wadda Mooli, Welcome to Week 10, Term 3 2025.
As Term 3 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a fantastic term across all areas of school life. I am incredibly proud of the way our students have conducted themselves – their behaviour, engagement, and enthusiasm have been exceptional.
Throughout the term, we’ve seen a strong focus on learning, with students continuing to make pleasing progress across all year levels. The dedication of our staff, combined with the students’ growing ownership of their learning, has contributed to some wonderful results and individual success stories. I have enjoyed walking through classrooms and seeing students engaged, curious, and supportive of one another.
Outside of the classroom, our students have also demonstrated a strong sense of community. Whether participating in school events, representing our school at interschool competitions, or contributing to fundraisers they have done so with pride, responsibility, and a positive attitude. All our Term 3 community events were a great success. Thank you to all the families who joined us and supported these occasions. Your ongoing partnership is what makes our school community so special.
As we look forward to Term 4, there is so much to be excited about. End-of-year celebrations are just around the corner, including our school concert, graduation events, and awards assemblies. These moments provide important opportunities to celebrate our students’ efforts and achievements.
We will also be announcing our student leadership team for 2026. This is an exciting step for our aspiring young leaders. We are excited to see how they will shape the future of our school.
Additionally, our swimming program will kick off early in the term for select year levels. This is always a highlight for students, offering valuable water safety skills and plenty of fun along the way.
As we head into the break, I want to thank you once again for your support throughout the term. I hope the holidays bring a well-earned rest for all our families. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 4.

📢 Attention Year 5 Families
Expression of Interest – 2026 Senior Shirts
We are beginning preparations for the 2026 Senior Shirts for our current Year 5 students. To help us plan and organise sizing and quantities, we kindly ask families to complete an Expression of Interest form.
This is not a final order but an important first step in the planning process.
In order to have the shirts available for students at the beginning of Term 1, it is necessary to place the order as soon as possible. Late orders may delay order placement and impact the time when students can receive their shirts.
Please complete the form and return it to the office as soon as possible.
Your response will help ensure all students have the opportunity to be part of this exciting tradition as they move into their final year of primary school.
Thank you for your support!

Our Fortnightly Wrap Up
Stem - Sports Fun

On Friday, Aitkenvale students took part in the STEM Sports Competition at North Shore State School and had a fantastic time!
Teams from schools across Townsville came together to tackle exciting STEM challenges.
The first challenge was to design a House of the Future for the Townsville region — considering energy efficiency, natural disasters, sustainability, and environmental friendliness. Game on!
Other activities included Minecraft and LEGO building .
A huge congratulations to all competitors and to our Aitkenvale team for taking out 3rd place in LEGO building!
Spreading Smiles: Celebrating R U OK? Day Together

For R U OK? Day, our students enjoyed a fun cookie-decorating activity.
Each child created their own smiley face cookie as a reminder to share kindness, check in with others, and spread smiles. Our staff didn’t miss out either – they were treated to cupcakes and chocolates to help keep the conversation going.
Homework Club has wrapped up for Term 3

Students explored a dynamic mix of STEM, art, literacy, numeracy games, PLD activities, and reading — all through fun, hands-on experiences. 🌟
A big thank you to all the students who took part — you’ve proven that learning can truly be an adventure!
We’re also incredibly grateful to the dedicated staff and volunteers who made this program possible.
Learning Percentages the Fun Way: Year 6 Create Their Own Board Games

Year 6 have been busy creating their own board games using percentages as part of Numeration.
Here’s Miss Jenna, our JCU preservice teacher, working alongside our students as they design and play their games.
A Fun Way to Start the Morning!

What a fun way to start the day! Our students brought big smiles and even bigger style to morning gate duty by donning some delightfully silly glasses. It was a small touch that brought a lot of laughter and set a positive tone for the day ahead. A huge thank you to Miss Suhannah for organising this cheerful moment.
Art that Inspires: Senior Toilets Get a Stunning Makeover
A big thank you to Art by Lavinia for the exceptional artwork that’s brought new life to our senior toilets!
Your creativity and talent have truly transformed the space into something vibrant, welcoming, and inspiring. What was once a plain area is now filled with colour, character, and artistic expression that our students and staff can enjoy every day.

Supporting Learning at Home: Homework and Family Time
At Aitkenvale, we highly value opportunities for students to develop their literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills. We recognise the family/home unit as a key teacher in these areas and the way these skills can be developed through everyday interactions. The importance of allowing sufficient time for family, recreation, and community and cultural activities is also valued. Homework is therefore encouraged but non-compulsory.
Suggested homework activities are communicated through the fortnightly school newsletter. There is no need for students to return / show their completion of these tasks – if they want to, they can, we always love to see our students’ progress. Please see below this fortnight’s homework activities which you can do as a family:

Our whole-school target is to reach 88% attendance this year, and currently, we are sitting at 86.5%. Every day at school truly makes a difference. Consistent attendance is essential for student achievement as it supports steady learning progress, helps maintain strong connections with peers and teachers, and develops skills that are valuable both inside and beyond the classroom.
Parents are key partners in this effort by establishing positive routines and addressing any attendance challenges early. Teachers contribute by delivering engaging lessons and fostering a warm, welcoming environment that motivates students to attend. Ultimately, students themselves are at the heart of this goal—their dedication to
