Wadda Mooli, Habari, Bonjour.
Welcome to week 4 of Term 4.
This week we are recognising State Education Week from 21 – 25 October. State Education week focuses on the teachers and school staff who support our students each and every day through many and varied adventures and new learnings. State Education Week culminates on Friday 25 October with World Teachers’ Day. This year, it’s “Hats off to Teachers”, and we celebrate our teachers and thank them for all the work they do to educate, inspire and empower learners across Australia. The Aitkenvale staff are an amazing group and we are grateful we have so many wonderful teachers working here to educate our children. Please take the time to acknowledge our amazing educators who support, educate and shape the future of our community.
I have spoken a lot this year about a focus on school pride, challenging our students to think about this school as a community. I have asked each of our students to think about how they contribute to making our school the place they want it to be. I encourage all community members to continue this dialogue and consider how our individual choices (actions and words) help in creating and maintaining the amazing community of Aitkenvale State School.
As I walk around the school, I notice students are engaging in new learning and consolidating learning from throughout the year. The majority of students are doing the right thing with just a small pocket of students choosing to make the wrong choices. If we keep working together, we can achieve the goals we set at the start of 2024.
DAY FOR DANIEL – FRIDAY, 25 OCTOBER
This week - Friday, 25 October - is ‘Day for Daniel’. This is a National Day of Action to raise awareness of Child Safety, Protection and Prevention. Students will hear important child safety messages so they can …
• Recognise safe and unsafe situations using safety clues
• React to keep themselves safe
• Report unsafe situations, unsafe phone and online incidents
Students are encouraged to Wear Red this Friday to help raise awareness for Day for Daniel.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are now taking all Prep enrolments for 2025. Children born 01 July 2019 – 30 June 2020 are eligible to attend Prep next year. Make sure you get your enrolment forms completed and handed into the office as soon as possible.
YEAR 6 into 7 2025
It is important for parents and carers of Year 6 students to make contact with their high school of choice for next year, if you haven’t already done so. This time of year, is usually when various enrolment information evenings are held, and enrolment interview blocks occur. Any student attendance at Term 4 open days or transition days is always subject to involvement in a current enrolment process at that particular high school and confirmed enrolment at that high school for 2025. If Year 6 students and families have not had an enrolment interview, the high/secondary schools do not allow students to attend their respective open/transition days.
ARE YOU TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER SCHOOL IN 2025? We will soon commence the process of coordinating class compositions for 2025. We would appreciate early notice if your child or children will be transferring to another school in 2025. Please inform the office by phone on 44212333 or email admin@aitkenvaless.eq.edu.au at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your assistance.
ATTENDANCE
Our Goal for 2024 was set at 85% attendance for the whole school as of week 4 Term 4 we currently sit at 86%. This is an increase of nearly 5% for the year. Let’s see if we can increase the % even further throughout Term 4.
School attendance is compulsory under the Education Act, however if children are unwell, we know it is best for them and the school community for them to stay home. If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, parents are requested to inform the school. If your child is absent from school on any given day and we are unaware of the reason for the absence, an SMS message will be generated asking you to contact the school regarding your child’s absence. Students are encouraged to be At School, On Time, Every Day, unless they are unwell.
Our school has two focus areas for 2024, which drive the work happening at Aitkenvale SS. The following are our priorities as outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan 2024.
School Priority 1
Maximise student engagement and wellbeing across all settings through a reduction in reported behaviour incidences
School Priority 2
Improve Level of Achievement in English for all students (Prep - Year 6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
All look forward to seeing you all at school over the coming term. For some of you this will be your last term as a primary school parent. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it. Thank you for working with the school as partners in your child’s learning.

Principal (Acting)

1A
Last term, 1A made dioramas for science. We learned about the different habitats that animals live in, and what these habitats need for the animals to live in them. The students worked very hard to make their dioramas and they look amazing!
1B
We have been very busy in 1B learning to retell stories using interesting words - adjectives, verbs and adverbs. It's been lots of fun making some of the characters. In respectful relationships we have been learning what it means to belong and how to be a good friend.
1/2C
This term, students in 1/2C have been exploring the structural features of narrative texts. They have also been planning and writing their own imaginative stories. This week, student narratives have been inspired by Lucy Goosey, a book written by Margaret Wild.
In Maths this week, 1/2C have been skip counting. This foundational skill will support students in strengthening their number sense.
2A
In English 2A have been looking at new imaginative events for familiar stories. Students have been writing an orientation, complication and resolution making sure they use lots of adjectives!
2B
In 2B, we’re exploring various water sources found around our school to understand their importance and how they contribute to our environment.
4A Picasso-Inspired Art & Math Fun!
Our talented 4th graders combined art and math in a creative lesson inspired by Picasso! As they created their pastel and charcoal masterpieces, students explored shapes, symmetry, and patterns—applying their math skills in a fun and imaginative way! It’s amazing to see how creativity and learning can go hand in hand.
Check out some of their incredible artwork below
