Principal Pen 📝
Wadda Mooli, Habari, Bonjour.
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope your holiday break involved wonderful time with friends and family. Term 4 is always a busy term, and this year it is also longer than usual, being 11 weeks. The school year concludes on 13 December. More information will be communicated throughout the term regarding supervision in week 11.
As I walk around the school, I notice students are engaging in new learning and consolidating learning from throughout the year. I am pleased to say that the behaviour and engagement of students has been on point for the first 2 weeks. Let’s hope this continues on for the remainder of Term 4.
I have spoken a lot this year about a focus on school pride, challenging our students to think about this school as a community. I have asked each of our students to think about how they contribute to making our school the place they want it to be. I encourage all community members to continue this dialogue and consider how our individual choices (actions and words) help in creating and maintaining the amazing community of Aitkenvale State School.
As stated, Term 4 is very busy so please make sure you read the calendar of events, watch the Facebook page and keep an eye out for notices coming home with your children. This will ensure your children do not miss out on the many opportunities over the term.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are now taking all Prep enrolments for 2025. Children born 01 July 2019 – 30 June 2020 are eligible to attend Prep next year. Make sure you get your enrolment forms completed and handed into the office as soon as possible.
YEAR 6 into 7 2025
It is important for parents and carers of Year 6 students to make contact with their high school of choice for next year, if you haven’t already done so. This time of year, is usually when various enrolment information evenings are held, and enrolment interview blocks occur. Any student attendance at Term 4 open days or transition days is always subject to involvement in a current enrolment process at that particular high school and confirmed enrolment at that high school for 2025. If Year 6 students and families have not had an enrolment interview, the high/secondary schools do not allow students to attend their respective open/transition days.
ARE YOU TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER SCHOOL IN 2025? We will soon commence the process of coordinating class compositions for 2025. We would appreciate early notice if your child or children will be transferring to another school in 2025. Please inform the office by phone on 44212333 or email admin@aitkenvaless.eq.edu.au at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your assistance. |
ATTENDANCE
Our Goal for 2024 was set at 85% attendance for the whole school as of week 2 Term 4 we currently sit at 86%. This is an increase of nearly 5% for the year. Let’s see if we can increase the % even further throughout Term 4.
School attendance is compulsory under the Education Act, however if children are unwell, we know it is best for them and the school community for them to stay home. If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, parents are requested to inform the school. If your child is absent from school on any given day and we are unaware of the reason for the absence, an SMS message will be generated asking you to contact the school regarding your child’s absence. Students are encouraged to be At School, On Time, Every Day, unless they are unwell.
Our school has two focus areas for 2024, which drive the work happening at Aitkenvale SS. The following are our priorities as outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan 2024.
School Priority 1
Maximise student engagement and wellbeing across all settings through a reduction in reported behaviour incidences
School Priority 2
Improve Level of Achievement in English for all students (Prep - Year 6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
All look forward to seeing you all at school over the coming term. For some of you this will be your last term as a primary school parent. Make sure you take the time to enjoy it. Thank you for working with the school as partners in your child’s learning.

Growing Minds: Exciting Lessons in Prep
Prep A has already been super busy this term! We have been learning about shapes and their attributes. We have been sorting 2D shapes and 3D objects based on their attributes. We have been practicing our reading and writing every day. We practice sounding out our words and blending them together to read.
Prep B have been learning about 2D shape through hands on experiences and group games. This has placed focus on learning the attributes of shapes whilst encouraging children to take turns and follow games with rules.
Our PLD and reading groups have kicked off for term four and our students in Prep B have continued to show their learning of letter formation. During week 2 we focused on letter formation with play dough, allowing children to showcase their knowledge and skills whilst having fun.

Tips for a Smooth Transition to High School!
The move from primary to high school can be a time of excitement and new experiences. It can also be
challenging or worrying for some students. Helping your child prepare for high school and making them
feel supported will reduce the risk of disengagement from school in the future.
No Excuse for Abuse
Schools are workplaces and, just like any workplace, abuse or aggression of any kind is unacceptable. While most interactions are positive, there's no excuse for aggressive or harassing behaviour either in person or online.
Our campaign addresses this issue by shedding light on these behaviours and making it clear that mistreatment of school staff is never acceptable, it can be a crime and may lead to prosecution. This initiative builds on previous activities to raise awareness and reinforce the message that respect is essential in every interaction within the school community.

Keep Our school Safe: School Watch 👀
Empty schools can become targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage, especially during school holiday periods. This comes at a cost to the whole community and not just the financial cost of repairs.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene.
Look, Listen, Report. Call School Watch on 13 17 88.
If you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000).
