Principal Pen
Wadda Mooli, Habari, Bonjour.
Welcome to week 6 of Term 3. We have settled into a new term and all classes are busy learning. I would like to congratulate the majority of students for working hard and doing the right thing in class.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are now taking all Prep enrolments for 2025. Children born 01 July 2019 – 30 June 2020 are eligible to attend Prep next year. Make sure you get your enrolment forms completed and handed into the office as soon as possible.
GARBUTT MAGPIES AFL COMPETITION
Congratulations to the Students that played in the AFL competition last week. You represented your school with pride and played really well showing great sportsmanship. Thank you to all involved in making this happen. Particularly a big thankyou to the Magpies for their ongoing support and sponsorship of the event.
RED TRACK- INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS
Congratulations to the 58 children who represented our school at the recent Red Track event. Staff in attendance said all students tried their hardest and represented Aitkenvale to the best of their ability. We are proud of your efforts. Well done!
CHALLENGE GAMES
Students from Aitkenvale and across Townsville participated in the 30th Annual Challenge Games. The main focus of the Challenge Games, and importantly so, is fun and participation for all children involved. There were over 30 different stations set up, covering 20 different activities for the enjoyment of the 13 different age groups of both boys and girls. Activities included track races, long jump and shot put and fun things such as frisbee throwing, modified javelin throwing, bean bag throwing, ball games, slalom (an obstacle course for wheelchairs), bocce, soccer, cricket and relays. By all accounts the Aitkenvale students and staff had a great 2 days.
SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY
Each year, families are asked to participate in the School Opinion Survey. Families with one or more enrolled student will receive one invitation to complete the survey. OneSchool (the departmental database) generates invitations. Invitations were sent out in the week beginning Monday 15 July. The survey closes on 16 August. We appreciate your feedback and encourage as many families as possible to participate. More information will be provided in coming weeks. Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to provide us with this invaluable feedback.
LATE ARRIVALS
Students arriving after 8:45am must report to the office to receive a late slip. Prior to 8.45am students are asked to go directly to their class to begin learning.
ATTENDANCE
School attendance is compulsory under the Education Act, however if children are unwell, we know it is best for them and the school community for them to stay home. If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, parents are requested to inform the school. If your child is absent from school on any given day and we are unaware of the reason for the absence, an SMS message will be generated asking you to contact the school regarding your child’s absence. Students are encouraged to be At School, On Time, Every Day, unless they are unwell.
Our school has two focus areas for 2024, which drive the work happening at Aitkenvale SS. The following are our priorities as outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan 2024.
School Priority 1
Maximise student engagement and wellbeing across all settings through a reduction in reported behaviour incidences
School Priority 2
Improve Level of Achievement in English for all students (Prep - Year 6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
I hope you all have a great week and look forward to seeing you in the school as partners in your child’s learning.
Lee Braney
Principal (Acting)

QParents
Aitkenvale State School is now providing our families with the opportunity to register with QParents.
The QParents web and mobile application provides a more convenient, easier way for parents and legal guardians of Aitkenvale State School students to interact with the school. Parents will have secure, online access to their child’s student information, anytime, anywhere, through a smartphone, tablet or computer.
Parents that are not active on QParents have been emailed an invitation keycode letter from the school to register for an account through the QParents App (app needs to be downloaded to your phone/tablet). Letters with the invitational keycode have been sent home with those students without a current email address. QParents is a secure web and mobile application that allows parents and caregivers of Queensland state school students to access information about their child and to communicate directly with their school. QParents provides you with secure, online access to information such as:
• Attendance Details
• Access Report Cards and Assessments
• Invoice and Payment Details
• Consent Form
• Online Payments
• Update your child’s details including home address, medical conditions, submit reasons for unexplained absences, notify the school of future absences, make online payments against school invoices.
