Welcome to Week 6, and the middle of Term 2! I hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather, it is a much-appreciated change. While it is still warm during the days, we are seeing more children wearing jumpers to school as the weather is cooler in the mornings. At times, we remind children to take their jumper off during play-time, to prevent feeling unwell. Please ensure your child’s jumper is a school colour (Black), and is very clearly named.
Thank you to all involved in the Mother’s Day event at the Community Hub. It was an amazing afternoon full of food, music and laughter. The school had many parents and community members from different organisations on site to enjoy the afternoon as a collective community. Thank you, it was a great celebration of the mums in our lives.
Remember the centenary celebrations are organised for Friday 31st May and Saturday 1st June. It promises to be a memorable occasion, and your involvement will add to the joy and spirit of this milestone event. Information has been shared via our school Facebook page and it is important you RSVP via the page for the Friday event. Make sure you share this with family and friends so we can showcase our amazing school.
Our school has two focus areas for 2024, which drive the work happening at Aitkenvale SS. The following are our priorities as outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan 2024.
School Priority 1
Maximise student engagement and wellbeing across all settings through a reduction in reported behaviour incidences
School Priority 2
Improve Level of Achievement in English for all students (Prep - Year 6) through a focus on lesson planning and delivery
We had a visit from the Regional Director and our School Supervisor on Friday 17th May. They visited a number of classrooms across the school, speaking with students and staff in regards to these priorities. The feedback they provided was very positive. “We are continuously proud of the work at Aitkenvale State School; the school and learning environment at Aitkenvale is vibrant and calm; the behaviour, engagement and wellbeing of students was commendable; and the physical school environment is looking fantastic.” This is great feedback and gives us the opportunity to look forward as we continue to focus on ensuring every student is reaching their potential at Aitkenvale.
Our PBL focus for week 5 and 6 has been 'Let everyone learn'
The focus centred on 'being Respectful' so everyone can learn. This meant classes revisited classroom expectations and explored various scenarios, so students could demonstrate the specific behaviours. By unpacking what being Respectful looks, sounds and feels like at Aitkenvale and by showing awareness of themselves and others gives everyone the opportunity to learn in a safe, trusting and supportive classroom environment.
Be Respectful
- Use school appropriate language
- Use your manners
- Listen to and follow all staff instructions
- Respect property and personal space
- LET EVERYONE LEARN
Please ensure you speak with your child/ren in regards to what you expect from them, what the school expects from them and what it looks like to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL.
Uniform
Aitkenvale has an amazing new uniform, which is being transitioned in across the year. The Aitkenvale uniform consists of the new polo shirt, ASPS shorts/skorts/skirt, Aitkenvale Bucket hat, shoes and socks. In winter months we ask that jumpers are plain black. Please ensure we are all respecting our school by wearing the uniform with pride. The broader community see us wearing the uniform and make assumptions of our school based on things such as the appearance and behaviour of students. Be proud to be part of the Aitkenvale community and wear the uniform with pride.
Interschool sport season one continues each Friday for year 5 and 6 students. Students playing netball travel by bus to Murray Sporting Complex and begin playing from approximately 12.15pm and they return to school by 2.30pm. All students participating in Rugby League walk across to Centrals ASA fields and play from approximately 12.15pm and return to school by 2pm. Parents are more than welcome to attend either of the sports. If you intend on going please check with the office for up to date times.
Year 5 and 6 camp notes and money are due. Please ensure this is done in a timely manner so final preparations can occur. We look forward to taking the students on camp in week 10. If you have any questions please contact your class teacher or the office for more information.
I hope you all have a great week and look forward to seeing you in the school as partners in your child’s learning.
