Wow, we are already in week 4 of Term 2. The term is flying past with students and teachers doing great work in the classrooms. It is excellent to see the majority of students engaged in their work and trying to learn to the best of their ability.
In my first 3 ½ weeks I have seen many great things including the majority of students being respectful to staff and others. However, there are a small number of students that need reminding of school appropriate behaviours. Aitkenvale State School sets high standards for behaviour from all in our school and community, so teaching and learning can be prioritised and staff and students can experience success in a safe and enjoyable environment. Aitkenvale has 3 school rules, which include but aren’t limited to the following examples:
Be Safe
- - Keep hand, feet and objects to yourself
- - Use equipment appropriately
- - Move around the school sensibly
- - Line up and be in the correct areas
Be Responsible
- - Ask permission to leave supervised areas
- - Be in the right place at the right time
- - Ask for help when required
- - Be responsible for your own behaviour
Be Respectful
- - Use school appropriate language
- - Use your manners
- - Listen to and follow all staff instructions
- - Respect property and personal space
Please ensure you speak with your child/ren in regards to what you expect from them, what the school expects from them and what it looks like to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTFUL.
Aitkenvale has an amazing new uniform, which is being transitioned in across the year. The Aitkenvale uniform consists of the new polo shirt, ASPS shorts/skorts/skirt, Aitkenvale Bucket hat, shoes and socks. In winter months we ask that jumpers are plain black. Please ensure we are all respecting our school by wearing the uniform with pride. The broader community see us wearing the uniform and make assumptions of our school based on things such as the appearance and behaviour of students. Be proud to be part of the Aitkenvale community and wear the uniform with pride.
Remember the centenary celebrations are organised for Friday 31st May and Saturday 1st June. It promises to be a memorable occasion, and your involvement will add to the joy and spirit of this milestone event. More information will be shared via our school Facebook page shortly. Make sure you share this with family and friends.
Interschool sport season one has commenced with Aitkenvale sending netball and rugby league teams to compete in this year’s season one rotations. Students playing netball travel by bus to Murray Sporting Complex and begin playing from approximately 12.15pm and they return to school by 2.30pm. All students participating in Rugby League walk across to Centrals ASA fields and play from approximately 12.15pm and return to school by 2pm. Parents are more than welcome to attend either of the sports. If you intend on going please check with the office for up to date times.
For Mother’s Day the Community Hub will be holding an afternoon tea on Friday May 10 at 1pm. If you are attending, please bring a plate of food to share. This is a great opportunity to meet other mums while enjoying a snack and a drink. Hope to see you there.
Thank you all for making me feel welcome over the past few weeks. I am enjoying working at Aitkenvale and getting to know all the students, staff and parents. I look forward to working with you all over the coming terms and ensuring Aitkenvale provides the best education possible for all of our children.
Stay safe,
Lee Braney
